Laura Harley

Welcome!

My name is Laura Harley and I am a Baha'i, a singer-songwriter, and a life coach.  I create music to soothe the wounds of modern life, to help people explore important social and spiritual topics, and to help people grow spiritually.

All of my songs are about striving to live my life in accordance with the teachings of the Baha'i Faith, and are inspired by the teachings and Writings of the Baha'i Faith.   Over the past 15 years of writing, recording, and touring, it has been an honor and an inspiration to share these teachings with people through my music.

I write my music in such a way that people of all religious and non-religious backgrounds can identify with the emotions, struggles, and stories that I share.  My songs provide an opportunity to start meaningful conversations with friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers about spiritual topics.  They also provide inspiration and ideas to help listeners explore the meaning of their lives.

Below are descriptions of my albums and songs, as well as samples for you to listen to.  Feel free to explore the rest of my site as well, and please forward my site to anyone else you think may like to know about my music.

I hope that my music can be an ally to you on your spiritual journey, and will provide an opportunity for you to connect with others in a meaningful way!

"Laura Harley doesn't have particularly large hands,
yet she routinely finds entire audiences sliding into her palm
at the drop of a single lovelorn melody."

This One Chance (2008)

This One Chance (2008): Living in today's fast-paced and struggling world means navigating through challenges to our peace of mind, our relationships, and our hopes on a daily basis. But the choices we make and the perspectives we adopt can bring us joy and learning, even in the midst of struggle. In Laura Harley's new album entitled, "This One Chance", she explores the strength, vulnerability, and courage it takes to live a meaningful life.

In "On That Day", Laura reminds us that life is short and beautiful. She takes us into the story of what it would be like to be on the edge of death and then get a second chance - coming back to our lives with a new perspective and asking ourselves, “who do I really want to be?”

In "Little By Little", Laura quiets the fears and uncertainties that come with striving to live a life of purpose and courage. The song is a lullaby for modern life, reminding us to trust ourselves and take life one day at a time.

In "Game Over", Laura sings about the struggle to break free of the situations that drag us down. It is an anthem about making the choices we need to in order to live the lives we are meant to live.

Laura Harley's new album is a reminder that life is a precious opportunity that we can each live in our own meaningful way. We all have the capacity to make a difference, overcome the challenges that come our way, and make this one chance count.

Laura Harley (2006)

Laura Harley (2006): Critics and fans alike rave about the "crystalline beauty" of Laura Harley's voice. In a time when the airwaves are jammed with the static of a world on the brink, Laura cuts through the noise. Her captivating voice, evocative lyrics, and unforgettable songs have brought her devoted fans and critical acclaim throughout her musical career (both as a solo artist and as the former singer/guitarist of the Minneapolis-based band, Sliver).

On her debut solo album, written and recorded in New York, Minneapolis, and Vancouver, Laura combines electronica, alternative rock, and pop to create her own unique sound. The songs reflect many of Laura’s experiences over the past few years including a spiritual pilgrimage and her work as an artist and a life coach. She explores themes of search, struggle, hope and courage. The result is a collection of songs rich in melody and meaning – music that soothes the wounds of modern life.

In "Whisper", Laura explores a spiritual experience she had while on pilgrimage at the Baha'i World Center in Haifa, Israel.  This song is a meditation on the beauty and closeness of our connection with our Creator, and the mysterious journeys the soul can make while in prayer and meditation.

In "Shine" Laura writes about being in an interracial marriage and experiencing discrimination. It is about overcoming those struggles together and the beauty that exists when we come together in unity.

In "One Last Time", Laura writes about the struggle to stay on the path we are meant to live, even when others try to pull us off that path.  She explores the strength needed to pull away from destructive influences and live a spiritual and meaningful life.

In "Breathe It In", Laura sings about the need to be of service to others and build a new way of life, in the midst of a decaying world.

Available as a CD in Laura's store, CDBaby, and for digital download on  iTunes.

"You only have to hear Laura Harley sing one verse of a song to fall for her.
She has a strong presence that at times seems terribly vulnerable."
